16 People Displaced After Fire Ravages Norwalk Home: FD

The house has been posted unfit for occupancy, and the Red Cross is assisting with temporary shelter for the occupants.

NORWALK, CT — A house fire on Grove Street in Norwalk Thursday evening resulted in 16 people being temporarily displaced because the home has been posted as unfit for occupancy, according to Norwalk Deputy Fire Chief Stephen Shay.

No injuries were reported in the blaze, which was called in just before 7 p.m., and the Red Cross is assisting with finding temporary shelter for the occupants.

"The fire started in the basement and extended to the first floor, the first company in were met with heavy fire at the front door," Shay wrote in a statement. "There was extensive fire damage to the first floor and smoke damage to the second and third floor."

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and the the department's Fire Marshal office is investigating.
