1973 Cold Case: Norwalk Police Seek Help Identifying Victim

On July 27, 1973, an unidentified man was discovered floating face down in Charles Creek in Norwalk.

NORWALK, CT - On July 27, 1973, an unidentified man was discovered floating face down in Charles Creek in Norwalk, and now nearly 43 years later the police department is seeking the public's help in closing the cold case.

The man was described as a white male between the ages of 30 and 35, 5’10’’ tall, 175 pound and with reddish-brown hair.

"Male was wearing a Cranbury colored 'Grooves' brand pull over shirt-size medium; 'Levis' brand gray trousers; size 30, Fruit of the Loom underpants. No jewelry or other personal paperwork," stated Lt. Art Weisgerber.

A passerby discovered the body at 6:50 a.m., "in the area of the Rex Marine Yacht Club docks in Charles Creek off of Beach Road." observed a white male floating in the water face down.

The body was transported to the Norwalk Hospital Morgue, and an autopsy was performed, but due to the state of decomposition, facial identification was not possible. However, the decomposition aided medical officials who performed the autopsy in estimating that the date of death was sometime between July 20 and July 23, 1973.

Recently, the man's dental chart, which was completed during the 1973 autopsy, has been coded into National Crime Information Center database. Separately, the victim's partial fingerprints have been scanned but no matches were found.
