200th Coronavirus Death Reported In Norwalk: Mayor

Connecticut reported another 73 coronavirus-related deaths over the weekend.

NORWALK, CT — The city reached the grim total of 200 coronavirus-related deaths since the pandemic began nearly a year ago, Norwalk Mayor Harry Rilling announced Monday.

Additionally, 92 new cases of COVID-19 were reported, bringing that total to 8,503 since last March.

"It's with profound sadness that I share news that another one of our residents has died from COVID-19," Rilling said. "Now, 200 of our neighbors and friends have passed because of this terrible virus. It’s hard to fathom the loss in the community in less than a year's time. Let us all think of these 200 families, loved ones, and friends, who are no longer with us."

According to Rilling, Norwalk's COVID-19 testing operations at Veteran's Park and Norwalk Community College will be canceled on Tuesday, Feb. 2, due to the weather. He added it is likely that testing operations will be delayed on Wednesday.

The Norwalk Health Department will hold additional COVID-19 vaccine clinics later this week for phase 1a-eligible individuals and those 75 and older per phase 1b guidelines, Rilling added. Eligible residents must schedule appointments through the Vaccine Administration Management System (VAMS) system. For more information, visit norwalkct.org/vaccine.

"We are still in the middle of a pandemic, and the winter weather does not make things any easier," Rilling said, as the city remains under a snow emergency Monday night. "Testing sites are being closed and vaccination clinics are being postponed. I appreciate residents remaining patient as we clear roads and get operations back to normal. Please continue to stay safe, stay warm, and stay inside."
