2019 Norwalk Election Results: Rilling, Democrats Victorious
Here's what you need to know concerning the results of the 2019 Norwalk local elections.

NORWALK, CT — UPDATE: Norwalk Mayor Harry Rilling, a Democrat, won re-election Tuesday over challenger Lisa Brinton, an unaffiliated candidate who was endorsed by Republicans.
The victory marks a fourth term for Rilling, a former Norwalk police chief. He garnered better than 55 percent of the vote, while Brinton captured just under 45 percent.
On the Common Council, Colin Anthony Hosten, Manny Langella, Nick Sacchinelli, Gregory Burnett Sr. and Barbara Smyth, the Democratic At-Large candidates, won over their Republican rivals.

Other winners in the Common Council race were Democrats Kadeem Rashied Roberts and David B. Heuvelman in District A; Democrats Darlene Young and Ernest W. Dumas in District B; Democrats George Theodoridis and John Kydes in District C; Democrat George C. Tsiranides and Republican Tom Keegan in District D; and Democrats Margaret Alice (Lisa) Shanahan and Tom Livingston in District E.
On the Board of Education, Democrat Godfrey J.Azima won in District A; Democrat Sherelle Harris won in District B; Democrat Diana Carpio won in District C; Democrat Erica DePalma won in District D; and Democrat Mike Barbis won in District E.

Original story: The votes are now being counted as Norwalk residents wait to see if Mayor Harry Rilling, a Democrat, was re-elected to his fourth term, or if he was defeated by challenger Lisa Brinton, an unaffiliated candidate endorsed by Republicans. Additionally, several other positions were up for grabs, Common Council seats, Board of Education seats and Taxing District Commissioners, among others.
Polls closed at 8 p.m., but voters who were in line before 8 p.m. were able to vote even after the deadline passed.

In other races, for City Treasurer, Democrat Joseph S. Tamburri ran against Republican Jerry E. Petrini; for City Sheriff, Democrat Robert E. Burgess ran against Republican Scott Vetare; and for Town Clerk, Richard A. McQuaid ran unopposed.
On the Common Council, 10 candidates ran for five At-Large seats: Democrats Colin Anthony Hosten, Manny Langella, Nick Sacchinelli, Gregory Burnett Sr. and Barbara Smyth were up against Republicans Richard J. Bonenfant, Darnell Crosland, Glenn Iannacone, Patrick Murphy and Artie Kassimis. Incumbents are Hosten, Sacchinelli, Burnett and Smyth.
Other positions that also had citywide elections were Selectmen and Constables. Democrats Samuel Pride and Andy Garfunkel ran against Republicans Shannon O'Toole Giandurco and Kathryn Martino for Selectmen. For the Constable positions, Democrats A. Samuel Disraelly, Ernest W. Dumas, Johnnie Mae Weldon and Jalin Sead ran against Republicans Peter Bondi, John Romano Sr., Frank Mauro and Ray Cooke.
District A
District A Common Council candidates Kadeem Rashied Roberts and David B. Heuvelman both ran unopposed.
For the Board of Education, District A voters chose between Democrat (and Working Families) Godfrey J. Azima and Republican Alexandrea Kemeny.
District B
Common Council candidates Darlene Young and Ernest W. Dumas, and Board of Education candidate Sherelle Harris, all Democrats, ran unopposed.
District C
In District C, Democrats George Theodoridis and John Kydes (both also were on the Working Families tickets) ran for the Common Council against Republicans Michael Foley and James Anderson. For the Board of Education, Democrat (and Working Families) Diana Carpio ran against Republican Jason Christopher.
District D
For the Common Council from District D, Democrats (and Working Families) James K. Page and George C. Tsiranides ran against Republicans Tom Keegan and Carl Dickens. For the Board of Education, Democrat (and Working Families) Erica DePalma ran against Republican Bryan Meek.
District E
In District E, Democrats (and Working Families) Margaret Alice (Lisa) Shanahan and Tom Livingston ran against Republicans Ron Paladino and Peter Bondi. Democratic Board of Education candidate Mike Barbis ran unopposed.
1st Taxing District
For 1st Taxing District Commissioner, Democrat Marija V. Bryant ran against Republican Rosa Luciani. First Taxing District Treasurer candidate Jalin Sead, a Democrat, was unopposed.
2nd Taxing District
For 2nd Taxing District Commissioner, Democrat Martha Wooten Dumas ran against Republican Harold Bonnet. The district's Treasurer candidate Darlene O. Young, a Democrat, was unopposed.
3rd Taxing District
In the 3rd Taxing District, Democrat (and Working Families) Michele M. Sweeney, Republican Charles Yost, and Petitioning Candidate Debora Goldstein ran for Commissioner, and Democrat Edward M. Holowinko and Republican Read Auerbach ran for Treasurer.
6th Taxing District
For the 6th Taxing District, both Commissioner Tamsen C. Langalis and Treasurer candidate Gilbert Kernan ran unopposed for their positions.
