23-Year Mystery Solved: Body Found On Island Finally Identified

A body found off the coast of Norwalk in 1996 has been identified nearly 23 years later.

NORWALK, CT — Police said a body found off the coast of Norwalk nearly 23 years ago has been identified. According to a news release, police said human remains were found on Shea Island in Norwalk Harbor on April 18, 1996, at which time no identification could be made.

Police said Friday the man found on Shea Island in 1996 was identified as Landberto Quintero. (To sign up for Norwalk breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

According to police, due to updates with the NGI fingerprint database run by the FBI, Lieutenant Art Weisgerber requested the Latent Print Unit of the State of Connecticut Forensic Science Laboratory re-examine two developed fingerprints from the remains.

Police said Weisgerber was informed Thursday by Latent Print Examiner Anthony Villanueva that a positive identification had been made to the right ring finger.
