"Running a city is a tall order," writes WalletHub. "Not only must government officials navigate local politics, but they also must strive to balance the public’s interests with the city’s responsibilities and resources. And because resources generally grow limited as population sizes increase, especially when such increases occur rapidly, not all individual needs can or will be served."

The top five best-run cities are, in order: Boise, Idaho; Nampa, Idaho; Provo, Utah; Missoula, Montana; and Fort Wayne, Indiana.

At the other end of the spectrum, the five cities at the bottom of the list are: San Francisco, #146; Gulfort, Mississippi, #147; New York City, #148; Detroit, #149; and Washington, DC, #150.
