35 Firefighters Needed To Douse Norwalk House Fire: FD

The fire ripped through a portion of a home on Ravenwood Road Saturday night.

NORWALK, CT — A Saturday night fire at a home on Ravenwood Road in Norwalk required 35 firefighters to quell, according to Norwalk Deputy Fire Chief Todd Smith.

No injuries were reported in the 8:45 p.m. blaze, which tore through the roof from the front door to the right side of the building where the living room dining room and kitchen are located. In addition to the roof, the fire also reached up into the hallway and into the bedrooms.

"Fire attack commenced using ground ladders and 3 inch and three-quarter attack lines," Smith said in a statement. "Initial crews made entry through the garage up the stairs to the first level and were able to perform a primary search before concerns of collapsing roof structure caused evacuation of the building to be ordered."

At that point, firefighters attacked the blaze from a defensive position outside of the house "until the fire was knocked down sufficiently for entry to be made."

The home was vacant at the time, but its one occupant has been temporarily displaced due to the damage.
