4 Evacuated After Fire Breaks Out In Norwalk: FD

Fire officials said a married couple and their two children are safe after a fire broke out at their Norwalk home.

NORWALK, CT – Four people evacuated their Norwalk home after a fire broke out Wednesday evening just after 6:30 p.m., which prompted a response from approximately 25 firefighters, Deputy Chief Edward Prescott said in a news release.

According to the release, firefighters responded to the Rampart Road home and discovered the fire was located in the ceiling and the inaccessible attic space of a two bedroom addition to the single story ranch-style home.

"The husband, wife and their two children evacuated the home when they smelled smoke and called 911," Prescott said in a release. "The husband then went back in to attempt to put out the fire with a garden hose before firefighters arrived, but had to leave as the smoke charged the attic space and started to fill the house."

Firefighters had to pull down the bedroom ceiling and vent the roof to extinguish the flames, which engulfed the attic space.

Heat, smoke and water damage was confined to the two bedroom addition, and the family made arrangements to stay with friends until repairs could be made, Prescott said. Fire Inspector Luca Feola is investigating the cause of the fire.
