UPDATE: Police ID the 79-Year-Old Man Struck and Killed by Vehicle

The incident occurred on Newtown Avenue late Thursday night.

Updated at 3:55 p.m. on Saturday, April 30, 2016: Norwalk police have released the name of the man who was killed late Thursday night when he was struck by a vehicle on Newtown Avenue.

The pedestrian, Joseph Torok, 79, of Nelson Avenue in Norwalk, was transported to Norwalk Hospital following the 11:30 p.m. accident where he succumb to his injuries. T

Police said the driver of the vehicle stopped after striking Torok and contacted the police, but the accident remains under investigation.

NORWALK, CT - A 79-year-old Norwalk man was struck and killed by a vehicle late Thursday night while he was "walking in the roadway" on Newtown Avenue, according to police.

The crash occurred at about 11:30 p.m., and the man's identity has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.

"The operator of the vehicle immediately stopped and called police," said Lt. Terrence Blake in a statement, but added that the incident remains under investigation.
