The AIDS Memorial Quilt was created in 1987 as a memorial to those who have died of AIDS and as a way of helping others to understand the impact of the disease. The quilt is made up of panels that commemorate the life of someone who has died of AIDS. Today there are more than 48,000 individuals represented via memorial panels that make up the entirety of the Quilt. Due to the large size of the Quilt, it is displayed in 12’ x 12’ sections with each section including nine panels to memorialize individuals who have died of the disease.

Mark Hammond, Chief Executive Officer of Circle Care Center, commented that, “This display will be particularly meaningful to our patients at Circle Care Center because we have a large population of long-term HIV survivors who utilize our services. Many of our patients have personally battled this disease for decades and have lost loved ones to it. Displaying the AIDS Memorial Quilt at our facility will be a chance for all to reflect on the impact of HIV/AIDS since the beginning of the epidemic, the progress we have made along the way, and to remember those who are no longer with us.”
