Alleged DNA Match Leads To Sex Assault Arrest Of Norwalk Man: PD

The suspect was arrested Friday on a warrant.

NORWALK, CT — A 21-year-old Norwalk man was arrested by Norwalk police on a warrant Friday after investigators determined that his DNA allegedly matched evidence obtained from a sexual assault victim, according to authorities.

Nicholas Gutierrez-Tabor was apprehended at his Sasqua Pond Road residence and charged with first-degree sexual assault and first-degree unlawful restraint in connection with the alleged sexual assault that occurred in May. Gutierrez-Tabor's arrest was one of two unrelated sexual assault warrant arrests by Norwalk police on Friday.

"During the investigation, detectives executed search warrants, to include one for Gutierrez-Tabor DNA," wrote Norwalk Police Lt. Terrence Blake in a statement. "Lab results concluded that Gutierrez-Tabor’s DNA matched evidence that had been recovered from the victim."

Additional details of the case were not disclosed, but the investigation remains ongoing and anyone with any information is urged to contact Detective Taranto, who is the lead investigator, at 203-854-3111.

Gutierrez-Tabor was held in lieu of bail of $750,000 and is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on Dec. 14.
