Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Provide Service to the Community

Sorority provides services to a population who might not otherwise have access to those services.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Omicron Upsilon Omega and Beta Iota chapters hosted a Family Enrichment Day at Open Door Shelter in Norwalk. Adults from the community received tips on how to ace a job interview, resume building, and job readiness. Children participated in reading circles, book creations, and art activities.

Parents were given information on school readiness to help them prepare their children for school, and the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC) an evaluation that measures state standards and critical thinking. College readiness was also discussed during the event. Adults from the community were given a bag of groceries to take home with them, while children received books and craft kits.

The sorority also held a clothing drive at the Norwalk Police Department. Sorority members, family, and friends donated and collected gently used clothing for the community. Tables and clothing racks were filled with warm coats, professional and casual wear for women, men, boys and girls.
