NORWALK, CT — A man found with a loaded assault rifle in his possession was arrested Thursday evening in Norwalk, according to the Norwalk Police Department.
In a news release, Police Lt. Ramon Tejada said officers were called to the area of Richards Avenue around 6 p.m. after receiving a report of an unknown man sleeping in the back stairwell of a building.
According to Tejada, officers made contact with the man, identified as Lance Jones, 22, of Norwalk, who initially provided a false name.
After further investigation, officers determined Jones was in possession of an AR-15-style assault rifle, which was found inside his book bag, according to Tejada.
Officers located the rifle, which was loaded with a 60-round magazine, Tejada said.
Jones did not possess a firearms permit, Tejada said.
Jones was charged with possession of an assault weapon, possession of a large capacity magazine, carrying a pistol without a permit and interfering with an officer.
His bond was set at $100,000 and he is scheduled to appear in court later this month, according to Tejada.
