Resident Severely Burned, 2 Firefighters Injured In Norwalk House Fire: FD

NORWALK, CT — A person was severely burned and two firefighters were injured in a house fire that broke out early Thursday morning in Norwalk, according to the Norwalk Fire Department.

In a news release, Assistant Chief Timothy Reardon said the house fire was reported around 4:30 a.m. at a 1.5-story single-family house on Harriet Street.

When firefighters arrived in the area, they were confronted with heavy fire on the second floor of the home, Reardon said.

According to Reardon, crews extinguished the fire through "an aggressive interior attack" and the blaze was declared under control about 19 minutes after they arrived.

Two unrelated residents on the first and second floors of the home were able to self-evacuate as firefighters arrived, Reardon said.

According to Reardon, the second-floor resident is being treated for severe burn injuries at the Bridgeport Hospital Burn Center.

The first-floor resident was uninjured and relocated by the American Red Cross, Reardon said.

Two firefighters are also being treated for minor burn injuries, according to Reardon.

The Westport and New Canaan fire departments provided coverage for Norwalk fire stations throughout the incident, Reardon said.

The Norwalk Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire, according to Reardon.
