NORWALK, CT — A new coffee shop recently opened its doors in Norwalk, offering specialty coffee, fresh pastries and Middle Eastern-inspired flavors for customers.
According to information provided by the store, MOTW Coffee and Pastries, a coffee shop known for handcrafted specialty drinks, fresh pastries and creating welcoming spaces that bring people together, held its grand opening at 467 West Avenue, Suite 5, on June 13.
According to Usama Aslam, who co-owns the Norwalk store with siblings Bilal, Zainab and Ijlal Aslam, MOTW aims to be more than just a coffee shop.
"MOTW blends specialty coffee with Middle Eastern-inspired flavors and hospitality, creating an experience that's both familiar and unique," Aslam said in an email to Patch. "From our handcrafted drinks and fresh pastries to our welcoming atmosphere and attention to detail, everything is designed to make customers feel at home. Our motto, 'Coffee with a Purpose,' reflects our commitment to bringing people together through great coffee."
According to their website, the Norwalk store is MOTW's third location in Connecticut, with coffee shops in New Haven and Middletown also owned by the four siblings.
Aslam said Norwalk proved to be the perfect fit for a new MOTW coffee shop due to it being a vibrant, diverse community that appreciates quality food and unique experiences.
"West Avenue, in particular, has great energy with a mix of residents, professionals and visitors, making it the perfect place to introduce MOTW," Aslam said. "We wanted to create a welcoming space where people can gather over exceptional coffee and pastries while experiencing something different from the typical coffee shop."
He also noted Connecticut is a good fit for the franchise because the state has embraced specialty coffee while also celebrating its diverse communities and local businesses.
"We've found that people here appreciate high-quality ingredients, unique flavors and spaces that bring people together," Aslam said. "The support we've received throughout the state has made Connecticut feel like home for MOTW, and we're excited to continue growing here."
Since opening the shop earlier this month, the response from customers in Norwalk has been incredible, according to Aslam.
"We've been grateful for the warm welcome from the Norwalk community," Aslam said. "Customers have been excited to try our signature drinks, and many have already become regulars. Seeing people return with their friends and family has been the biggest compliment we could ask for."
The menu at MOTW features a wide variety of specialty lattes, as well as matcha drinks, espresso, hot teas, Yemeni chai and specialty refreshers.
Customers can also enjoy food such as empanadas, milk cakes, muffins and other fresh pastries.
Aslam recommends first-time customers try their pistachio, biscoff or Spanish lattes.
"If you're a matcha fan, our strawberry matcha and mango matcha are customer favorites," Aslam said. "Pair any drink with one of our fresh pastries, especially the flavor-packed empanadas or desserts for the full MOTW experience."
Aslam also encouraged customers in Norwalk to stop by and make MOTW part of their routine.
"We'd love to welcome everyone into our shop," Aslam said. "Whether you're stopping by for your morning coffee, catching up with friends, studying or just looking for something new, we hope you'll make MOTW part of your routine. Our team is passionate about creating a memorable experience, and we can't wait to serve the Norwalk community."
The Norwalk coffee shop is open Monday-Thursday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday from 7 a.m. to 12 a.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 a.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., according to the website.
Aslam also noted he and his team were incredibly thankful for the support they have received in Norwalk so far.
"Opening in Norwalk is an exciting milestone for us, and we're committed to becoming an active part of the community," Aslam said. "We look forward to partnering with local organizations, hosting events and continuing to make MOTW a place where people can connect over great coffee. We invite everyone to stop by and experience what makes MOTW special."
