2 House Fires Reported In Less Than An Hour In Norwalk, Firefighter Injured: FD

NORWALK, CT — Two house fires were reported within minutes of each other Tuesday afternoon in Norwalk, according to the Norwalk Fire Department.

In a news release provided by the department, Assistant Chief Timothy Reardon said the first house fire was reported around 12:45 p.m. at a 2.5-story single-family house on West Norwalk Road.

According to Reardon, smoke was initially reported inside the house and a possible fire.

When crews arrived in the area, they discovered an active fire in the home's basement and extinguished it, Reardon said.

No injuries were reported, according to Reardon.

Before crews cleared the area, a second house fire was reported around 1:30 p.m. at a 2.5-story single-family house on Midrocks Drive, according to Reardon.

"Due to the first fire, available Norwalk Fire Department resources were limited to two engines, command staff and one New Canaan Fire Department engine," Reardon said in a news release.

When crews arrived in the area, they found fire showing from the home's first floor and heavy smoke present throughout the structure, Reardon said.

Additional crews were called to the area as they cleared the previous house fire and extinguished the Midrocks Drive fire, according to Reardon.

One firefighter sustained a minor hand injury and was taken to a hospital for treatment, Reardon said.

No other injuries were reported, according to Reardon.

Norwalk Hospital EMS crews and Norwalk police provided support during both fires, and the Rowayton Fire Department provided station coverage during the incident, Reardon said.

The Norwalk Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of both fires, according to Reardon.
