Man Stabbed During Fight Outside Norwalk Mall, 2 Arrested: Police

NORWALK, CT — Two men were arrested following a fight that broke out in front of The SoNo Collection mall Monday night, during which a person was stabbed, according to police.

In a news release, Police Lt. Ramon Tejada said officers were called to the North Water Street area around 7 p.m. following reports of an assault and that an individual had been stabbed.

Officers detained several people believed to be involved in the fight, and Norwalk Fire Department crews provided medical aid to a 20-year-old, Tejada said.

The 20-year-old was taken to Norwalk Hospital by ambulance and remains hospitalized, according to Tejada.

He is reported to be in stable condition, Tejada said Tuesday morning.

According to Tejada, a preliminary investigation determined an altercation occurred between a moped operator and four people who were walking on the sidewalk in front of the mall extending along West Avenue from North Water Street to the area of the I-95 northbound on-ramp.

One of the suspects produced a sharp object during the incident and stabbed the 20-year-old in the right arm, according to Tejada.

Officers identified and detained Danny Reyes, 18, of Norwalk, who was determined to have been involved in the altercation, according to Tejada.

Reyes was found to be in possession of a Kahr .45-caliber handgun and was placed under arrest, Tejada said.

Detectives conducted witness interviews and reviewed surveillance footage from the surrounding area, Tejada said.

Officers later located a suspect in the stabbing, who police identified as Lester Escobar-Ayala, 19, of Norwalk, behind the mall in the area of Crescent Street.

Escobar-Ayala was arrested and charged with first-degree assault and second-degree breach of peace.

His bond was set at $200,000 and he is scheduled to appear in court next month, according to Tejada.

Reyes was charged with carrying a pistol without a permit and second-degree breach of peace.
