NORWALK, CT — Officers seized nearly 30 scooters and e-bikes during the month of July as a result of enforcement efforts involving traffic and motor vehicle violations in Norwalk, the department announced Monday.

According to police, the purpose of this initiative is not only to issue citations, but also "to educate riders and the public about the laws that help keep everyone safe while sharing our roadways."

Police said encouraging compliance with traffic laws and promoting safe riding practices can help reduce crashes and create a safer environment for motorists, cyclists, pedestrians and riders alike.

In July, officers seized 29 scooters and e-bikes as a result of enforcement efforts involving traffic and motor vehicle violations, according to police.

"These enforcement actions are part of our ongoing commitment to improving roadway safety throughout the city," the department's post reads. "We encourage all riders to familiarize themselves with the laws governing mopeds, scooters and e-bikes before heading out on the road."

Police said wearing appropriate safety gear is also essential.

"We appreciate our community's cooperation," police wrote on Facebook, "and remind everyone to ride responsibly, obey traffic laws and always make safety a priority."
