GoFundMe Effort Launched In Memory Of Norwalk Teen Fatally Struck By Train

NORWALK, CT — A GoFundMe campaign has been launched in memory of Norwalk resident Jefrey Ordonez, 16, who was fatally struck by a Metro-North train on Wednesday.

"Jefrey was a lovely person, a good friend, friendly with everyone, and a hard worker," his sister, Angela Bonilla, wrote. "Losing him has brought heartbreaking pain to our family, and we are now facing the difficult responsibility of planning his funeral and memorial."

Ordonez was struck by a Danbury Branch train at about 8 p.m. on a bridge overpass south of the Merritt 7 Station, according to MTA police. He was pronounced dead later that night at Norwalk Hospital.

MTA police arrested a 17-year-old and a 20-year-old at the scene on a trespassing charge, according to authorities.

As of Friday morning, the GoFundMe effort had raised more than $17,000 toward a goal of $28,000.

"During this time of grief, we are trying to honor his life in the most loving and respectful way we can," Bonilla wrote. "The funds raised will go toward funeral expenses, memorial costs, and other related arrangements. This support will help us give Jefrey the memorial he deserves, take some of the pressure off of our family as we make these arrangements, and also help my mom through this very difficult time."
