3 Hospitalized After High-Speed, 1-Vehicle Crash In Norwalk: Fire Department

NORWALK, CT — Three people were taken to Norwalk Hospital after a single-vehicle crash Sunday in which two of the victims were ejected from the Jeep Cherokee and the third was trapped inside, according to the Norwalk Fire Department.

Firefighters responded to the crash at 5:08 p.m., which was near Connecticut Avenue and Elmcrest Terrace. The northbound vehicle struck a guardrail at a high rate of speed and continued for about 100 feet before stopping, Norwalk Deputy Fire Chief Adam Markowitz said.

"Preliminary findings indicate that the Jeep approached the intersection of Connecticut Avenue and Elmcrest Terrace, and the operator lost control of the vehicle," Norwalk Police Lt. Ramon Tejada wrote in a statement.

The crash resulted in the temporary closure of a portion of Connecticut Avenue on Sunday, but the road has since been reopened.

Two male passengers were ejected from the vehicle and found in brush on the opposite side of the guardrail and a chain-link fence, according to the Fire Department.

Norwalk firefighters, Connecticut state troopers and Norwalk police located the two men and removed them from the brush while providing CPR and other patient care. Both were transferred to Norwalk EMS for additional care and transportation.

A female driver was trapped inside the vehicle and was extricated by Norwalk firefighters. Westport EMS transported her to Norwalk Hospital.

A second female passenger was not injured and was found walking outside the vehicle, according to the Fire Department.

The conditions of the three victims were not immediately available.

"The investigation into the accident remains active and ongoing," Tejada said. "Anyone who may have witnessed the accident or has information, video, or other evidence related to this incident is asked to contact the Norwalk Police Department."
