1. ICE Presence Reported In Norwalk, Mayor Issues Statement: City (patch.com) — Norwalk officials are responding to reports of federal immigration enforcement activity in and around the city, stressing that local police do not participate in ICE operations and follow Connecticut's TRUST Act. Mayor Barbara Smyth and school leaders are reassuring immigrant families that Norwalk schools remain safe, welcoming, and do not collect immigration status, while directing residents to legal and community resources and urging them to know their rights.
2. Norwalk Harbor dredging a 'priority' for CT Port Authority (nancyonnorwalk.com) — Norwalk Harbor's long-delayed dredging has been labeled a priority by the Connecticut Port Authority, raising hopes for boaters and businesses struggling with shallow, hazardous channels. State officials are working with the Army Corps on funding, disposal sites, and timing, though no firm start date is set yet for work in Norwalk.
3. Norwalk teacher Michelle Suda named district nominee for 2027 Connecticut Teacher of the Year (nancyonnorwalk.com) — Norwalk's own Marvin Elementary veteran teacher Michelle Suda has been chosen as Norwalk Public Schools' nominee for the 2027 Connecticut Teacher of the Year, after already earning the district's 2026 Teacher of the Year title. She was honored at the district Convocation, where she spoke about building relationships and belonging, ahead of the statewide awards ceremony in Hartford this December.
4. E-scooter operator injured in Norwalk crash (newportdispatch.com) — An e-scooter rider was seriously injured Tuesday night in a crash at Strawberry Hill Avenue and County Street in Norwalk and taken to Norwalk Hospital. Police say the rider wasn't wearing a helmet and crash reconstruction specialists are investigating. Witnesses or anyone with video or photos are urged to contact the Norwalk Police Crash Reconstruction Unit.
5. Back to school in Connecticut: More students returning for a new year across the state (ctpost.com) — Students in Norwalk are among thousands across Connecticut heading back to class this week as the 2026–27 school year begins. The state is rolling out free breakfast for all public school students and considering new rules on cellphones and classroom screen time, while districts stagger their first-day schedules through early September.
