Nearly 200 Abandoned Vehicles Towed In Norwalk This Year: Police

NORWALK, CT — Nearly 200 abandoned vehicles have been towed in Norwalk so far this year, according to the Norwalk Police Department.

In a Facebook post Friday, police said the department is stepping up its efforts to address abandoned and inoperable vehicles throughout Norwalk.

According to police, these vehicles "can create safety concerns, take up valuable parking and contribute to neighborhood blight."

As of Friday, the department has investigated over 850 abandoned vehicle cases this year that were reported by residents or located by officers on patrol, according to police.

Police said many of these cars are often moved from the street when the last registered owner of the vehicle is contacted by the department's Abandoned Vehicle Squad.

If the car is determined to be abandoned on the street for more than 24 hours after a sticker is affixed to it, the vehicle is towed and enforcement action is taken, according to police.

Police said the department has towed more than 190 cars from local streets this year in an effort to rid the city of these quality-of-life issues.

"We appreciate our residents' cooperation and help in keeping our streets safe, clean and accessible for everyone," police wrote on Facebook.

Any resident who wishes to report an abandoned car in their neighborhood is asked to email PoliceCommPolicing@norwalkct.gov or contact NPD Tip411.

"Once reported, officers will investigate the reported vehicle and take enforcement action in accordance with local and state law," the department's post reads, "including citations and removal when warranted."
