NORWALK, CT — Popular indoor golf venue Five Iron Golf recently opened its first Connecticut location in Norwalk, offering guests a place to enjoy both a "legitimate golf experience" or simply a fun night out, according to an owner.
Located at 50 Washington Street in the city's South Norwalk area, the 8,500-square-foot location at the SoNo 50 building features 10 simulators, food and beverage service and event space among other features.
John Cornelius, who co-owns the Norwalk location with franchisees Jeff Kelly, Jacob Dowden, George Jamgochian and Bruce MacKenzie, said the SoNo area felt like a natural fit for Five Iron Golf due to its mix of community, restaurants, nightlife and activity that works well with their concept.
"Washington Street already draws people who are looking to go out, meet friends, have dinner or drinks and make a night of it," Cornelius said in an email to Patch. "Five Iron Golf adds something different to that mix, and we love the South Norwalk market and location."
The group also operates a Five Iron Golf location in Port Chester, N.Y., which opened in September 2025, and plans to open another location in New Haven soon.
The two-level venue has 10 Trackman simulators that allow golfers to virtually play more than 400 courses, including Pebble Beach and St. Andrews.
The simulators also provide multi-angle video analysis of players' swings for use during instruction.
According to Cornelius, the Norwalk location stands out among other indoor golf experiences because it is not designed to be just one thing.
"Golfers who really care about their game have access to Trackman technology, multi-angle swing capture, professional instruction, leagues and the ability to practice and play year-round," Cornelius said. "There is real depth to the golf experience."
The venue also operates as a full sports bar and social destination with food, cocktails, TVs and space to gather, Cornelius said.
"You can come in to work on your swing or on your putting stroke on our large putting green, watch a game over drinks, bring the family, meet friends or host a party or corporate event," Cornelius said. "Our tailored cocktails and excellent variety of beers on tap, along with delicious options like our chicken sandwich, wings and warm pretzel sticks, are perfect while you golf or watch the game of the week on our TVs. You don't have to choose between a legitimate golf experience and a fun night out."
The Norwalk location celebrated its grand opening last month and will host a grand opening party Thursday evening to officially welcome the local community and businesses in the area.
Five Iron Golf also offers $5 bottomless boneless wings with a simulator purchase every Sunday during football games, giving groups an easy way to pair game day eats with some simulator play, according to additional press materials provided by Five Iron Golf.
The offer is available from kickoff through the end of the last game at participating locations.
Cornelius also emphasized that Five Iron Golf can be enjoyed by golfers who are relatively new to the sport.
"One of the things we like most about Five Iron Golf is that you can take golf as seriously as you want without the environment itself feeling intimidating," Cornelius said. "Someone can come in for their first lesson or just play with friends, while the person in the next bay may be using the technology to really dial in their game."
He also noted the Norwalk venue can be a great place for families to experience golf together.
"You're indoors, you can play at your own pace and there are options beyond traditional golf gameplay," Cornelius said. "It makes the sport much easier to try without taking anything away from the experience for more experienced players."
In addition to its golf and sports bar experiences, Cornelius said the space offers flexibility and is built for private events, corporate outings, birthdays and celebrations.
"We want Five Iron Golf Norwalk to be a place people use in different ways," Cornelius said, "whether that's practicing every week, joining a league, taking a lesson, having dinner and drinks or celebrating something with a group."
