NORWALK, CT — The Norwalk Police Department recently announced two Officers of the Month for September 2026.
In two separate Facebook posts Friday, the department said Police Sgt. Jose Silva and Officer Louis Giannattasio were both recognized for their "efforts to address the significant quality-of-life issue of abandoned cars" in the city.
According to police, both Silva and Giannattasio assume substantial additional responsibilities with the department's Abandoned Vehicle Unit.
The department said both of their work with the unit "has been exemplary, reflecting dedication and a strong commitment to improving the quality of life" in Norwalk.
According to the department, Silva and Giannattasio handled 103 calls for service related to abandoned vehicles in August, and their follow-up investigations resulted in 31 vehicles being towed and four additional vehicles destroyed.
Both officers significantly increased their output in September, investigating 194 abandoned vehicle calls, which led to 79 vehicles being towed and 9 vehicles destroyed, police said.
"This increase in productivity demonstrates their exceptional work ethic, organizational skills and commitment to addressing a persistent community concern," police wrote on Facebook.
