American Flag Disposal Box at Fire Dept Moving to New Location

With the construction of the new Norwalk Fire Headquarters on Connecticut Ave beginning soon, the Fire Dept wants residents to know that the American Flag disposal box is being moved to the Chief Jack Yost station at 90 New Canaan Ave. The Flag disposal box has serviced the community for three years and is a project with the American Legion in Norwalk. Many residents wanting to do the right thing in the disposal of their American flags have found this a welcome sight. A second flag disposal box is located the American Legion on County St.

The flags are removed weekly, examined and occassionally, where appropriate, they replace older flags at some of our cemetaries. Others are donated to scouts for their ceremonies or lastly taken to the Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral home crematory, where they have graciously offered to burn and dispose of them in the correct and respectful manner.

Fire Chief Denis McCarthy noted that "the Norwalk Fire Department is happy to provide this service to the community as a way to promote patriotism and honoring this symbol of our great Country."
