Norwalk Resident Awarded College Scholarship From CT Funeral Director's Association

Alexa Connors of Norwalk is one of eight Connecticut graduating high school seniors selected to receive college scholarship funds by the Connecticut Funeral Directors Association (CFDA). Connors, a new graduate of Norwalk High School, will study Psychology at Fordham University. CFDA presented $500 in college scholarships to the eight students at a ceremony near its offices in Wethersfield.

“The Connecticut Funeral Directors Association created our scholarship program 12 years ago to encourage young women and men to follow their dreams and consider careers where they can help people in need – just as funeral directors do every day,” explains Pasquale S. Folino, CFSP, a funeral director and President of the Connecticut Funeral Directors Association. “We understand how important it is to support others during difficult times and hope to motivate more graduates to consider jobs where they will provide assistance to others.”

In addition to Alexa Connors, seven other honorees each received $500 toward college:

• Tori Bisciotti of Torrington (Torrington High School) who will study Social Work with a minor in Spanish at Western New England University;
• Kaitlyn Elliot of Clinton (The Morgan School) who will study Human Services at Northeastern University;
• Melissa Godere of Norwich (Norwich Free Academy) who will study Biology/Criminology/Psychology at Eastern Connecticut State University;
• Justin Gottier of Ellington (Ellington High School) who will be a Pre-Medical student at the University of Connecticut;
• Sara Greco of Southbury (Pomperaug High School) who will study Nursing at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va.;
• Kevin Hull of Suffield (Suffield High School) who will study Social Work at Western New England University; and
• Griffin Latulippe of Wethersfield (Wethersfield High School) who will study to be a Physician Assistant at the Rochester Institute of Technology.

To be eligible for the Connecticut Funeral Directors Association’s academic college scholarship program, candidates had to live in Connecticut, be a high school senior graduating in June 2012, be pursuing a career that provides emotional or physical support for families, and have maintained at least a B grade point average in the 10^th, 11^th and 12^th grades.

The Connecticut Funeral Directors Association is comprised of funeral directors at more than 220 funeral homes. Based in Wethersfield, it is committed to the promotion and advocacy of high ethical standards in funeral service. This includes the development and presentation of ongoing professional training opportunities for practitioners and educational programs for association members and the public. The Wethersfield-based association was founded in 1889.
