Silvermine Arts Center has been voted Best Art Gallery in the Fairfield County area by Moffly Media’s Annual Best of the Gold Coast Connecticut. Readers of Greenwich, Westport, New Canaan/Darien, Stamford and athome in Fairfield County magazines voted Silvermine the Best Art Gallery. Silvermine was previously voted Best Art Gallery in 2005, 2006 and 2007. Moffly Publications described Silvermine as “the hub of social connectivity in Fairfield County. Is anyone not connected to it, be it through a show, class or event?”
“Silvermine Arts Center in New Canaan is truly honored to receive the Best Art Gallery award from Moffly Media and readers across Fairfield County, says Leslee Asch, Executive Director. “This recognition reflects the quality of our exhibits as well as the diversity of special events, performances, and lectures we offer to the Fairfield County community and we are very excited about the events and new exhibits that are coming up in the next few months. On September 17th, Silvermine will host our first annual Community Day, which will include the inauguration of our Sculpture Walk, and feature a concert with Asphalt Orchestra, acclaimed for its reinvention of the marching band repertoire. October 29th and 30th will be the return of the popular fundraising event, Signed, Sealed & Delivered, and in 2012, Silvermine will celebrate its 90th anniversary, hosting many events and special Guild Shows.”
Artists have been drawn to Silvermine since visionary sculptor Solon Borglum moved here in 1908 and established it as a place for artists to gather. The Silvermine Guild of Artists was founded in 1922 and formally incorporated as a 501(c) (3) organization in 1924 when the School of Art was established. Today, the Silvermine Arts Center is comprised of a Guild of over 300 professional artists, five galleries presenting new exhibitions every six weeks and sponsoring prestigious regional and national competitions; a gift shop; a School of Art providing a wide range of classes for all levels of experience from ages 2 to 102; public programs; and outreach programs in the Norwalk and Stamford schools.
