"The Coolest Comic Book Cover Ever!"

The following account is an announcement, not a regular Norwalk Patch article:

Ben, Dave Kruseski’s 5-year-old son, is about to appear on the coolest Spider-Man cover ever produced. Dave, you see, is the owner of (197 Westport Ave, Norwalk, CT), and has been a fan of comic books in general and Spider-Man in particular for much of his life. For the past 16 years, he has owned Heroes and on Wednesday, July 27th, he is about to have a Spider-Man fan's dream come true — his store's picture, with his son Ben smack in the middle, will appear on the cover of The Amazing Spider-Man #666.

As part of a special promotion, Marvel Comics is producing a very special variant cover for Amazing Spider-Man #666, which kicks-off a major new story arc entitled Spider-Island! The promotion allowed interested comic book shops across the country to literally put their own individual comic shop on the cover of the comic book! For many years, comic book companies have made variant or alternative covers of specific comics. Now, through the use of digital imaging technology, Marvel is actually able to produce limited numbers of specific alternate cover images for the same comic.

Back in May, comic shops that were interested in participating in the promotion were invited to notify Marvel by sending in either their shop’s logo, or a photo of the store. As a long-time Spidey fan, Dave couldn’t pass on the opportunity, and decided to have his son stand in front of the store to pose for the photo. “I figured it was such a cool thing for him to be on a Spidey cover, how can I NOT do it?” Dave said. He then went on to state “How many kids will be able to say they were on a Spider-Man comic? Possibly a once in a lifetime opportunity."

The issue is due to appear in his store on Wednesday July 27th, and Dave has already alerted most of his customers of its imminent appearance. “All of my regular customers have already told me that they want a copy, even the ones that don’t regularly buy Spider-Man,” Dave commented. "Some even said they want signed copies!" And since most of his regulars know Ben, no one was going to be able to get out of the shop without buying a copy, and if they tried, they would have explain to Ben why they didn’t want to buy “His” comic book.
