Another Cold Case Murder Arrest Made In Norwalk

The arrestee was 16-years-old at the time, police said.

NORWALK, CT — Police arrested a 22-year-old Bridgeport man in connection with a Norwalk homicide that occurred in 2012.

Joseph "Jabs' Bateman was shot and killed on February 3, 2012 behind the Avalon Gates housing complex on Belden Avenue.

Hakeem Atkinson, 22, was charged with murder. The shooting was gang-related, police said.

Batemen's case was featured in the fourth edition cold case playing card set that is sold to inmates in the states correction system. Atkinson is being held on a $1 million bond.

“I thank all who worked so diligently on this investigation. While we may consider a case to be ‘cold,’ it is never closed as we continue to work as hard as we can to bring some sense of closure to families who have lost loved ones,” said Norwalk Police Chief Thomas Kulhawik.
