Apartment Complex Damaged By Fire, Smoke: Norwalk FD

Crews extinguished structure fires at a six-story apartment complex and a vacant commercial building in Norwalk, fire officials said.

NORWALK, CT — Firefighters extinguished structure fires at a six-story apartment complex and a vacant commercial building Monday night in Norwalk, according to fire officials.

In a news release, Deputy Fire Chief Stephen Shay said firefighters entered the commercial building on West Avenue and encountered smoke. Crews then extinguished a large amount of debris, possibly set by people experiencing homelessness.

The second fire broke out on the sixth floor of an apartment complex on Water Street. The blaze was contained to the building's garbage compactor room, however there was smoke damage on the sixth floor and water damage on all floors below the fire room, Shay said.
