NORWALK, CT — Patriot Bank is seeking to close the Wall Street Theater in Norwalk after missing a number of payments on a loan, News 12 Connecticut reports.

News 12 Connecticut cited documents in a July filing that claim the theater has failed to make required monthly payments to the bank since October 2022. The theater recently filed a motion to object to a disclosure of assets.

The Wall Street Theater originally opened its doors in 1915 as "The Regent," featuring vaudeville acts and the latest "talkies," as well as performances from Lionel Barrymore, Mary Pickford and other notable performers.

In recent years, the Wall Street Theater has hosted a number of famous musicians, comedians and performers, including Clay Aiken, the Violent Femmes and Rob Schneider. The theater's current schedule boasts upcoming performances by Men Without Hats, José Feliciano and A Flock Of Seagulls.

After officially reopening as the Wall Street Theater in 2017, the theater filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2018 following disputes with a Danbury company hired to rebuild the theater, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, according to The Norwalk Hour.

Nearly a year later, the theater, located at 71 Wall Street in Norwalk, entered talks to exit from bankruptcy supervision, The Norwalk Hour reports.
