Beloved Norwalk High School Teacher, Coach Dies: District

Jon Albrecht, a valued member of Norwalk High's physical education department and coach of several athletic teams, has died.

NORWALK, CT — Jon Albrecht, a beloved educator at Norwalk High School and coach of several athletic teams, has died, according to the school's principal.

In a message sent to families Monday, Principal Reginald Roberts announced "with great sadness" that Albrecht had died Thursday.

According to Roberts, Albrecht was a valued member of the school's physical education and health department, and was well-known to students, parents and families for his many years of service to Norwalk Public Schools

In addition to teaching at NHS, Albrecht had been a coach of several athletic teams and even served as dean, Roberts noted.

"A mentor, a friend, a trusted colleague, a compassionate teacher and a parent of NHS graduates," Roberts said in his message, "Mr. Albrecht gave so much to our community, for which we are truly grateful."

Roberts noted district and school-based crisis teams were available in the school's Career Center, Upper Library and other private spaces to offer support to staff and students beginning Monday.

"Please keep the Albrecht family and the NHS community in your thoughts and prayers," Roberts said.
