The Glass House

Enjoy a rare opportunity to explore The Glass House and its grounds during the&nbsp;Golden Hour.&nbsp;This special two-hour guided tour offers a&nbsp;golden-hour experience&nbsp;of the site and its many distinct architectural landmarks. In addition, see how the&nbsp;lighting design by Richard Kelly&nbsp;– a pioneer and master of modern architectural lighting and a collaborator with Philip Johnson and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe –&nbsp;transforms the Glass House&nbsp;as the sun sinks in the sky.
This tour runs&nbsp;two hours&nbsp;in duration and is formulated to facilitate&nbsp;photography for personal use.&nbsp;It includes access to the Glass House, Brick House, Painting Gallery, Sculpture Gallery, and Da Monsta, with a&nbsp;three-quarter mile walk over paved, grass, and gravel paths.

This tour runs&nbsp;rain or shine.&nbsp;All&nbsp;ticket sales are final.&nbsp;No refunds will be issued, but tickets may be transferred to another date or program.
All&nbsp;tours depart from the Glass House Visitor Center + Design Store&nbsp;located at 199 Elm Street, New Canaan, CT 06840. Visitors are transported to the site in a shuttle which departs promptly.

Your three-hour adventure begins with a narrated tour of Norwalk Harbor, where you'll hear fascinating stories about the area's rich past — including how raw oysters became a local delicacy thanks to the Native Americans who first introduced them to English settlers.
As we glide through the tranquil, island-speckled harbor, keep an eye out for migratory birds making their nests and the charming lighthouses that have stood the test of time. You'll pass by the historic Peck Ledge and Greens Ledge Lights before arriving at the crown jewel — Sheffield Island Lighthouse, lovingly restored and maintained by the Norwalk Seaport Association since 1986.
Once on the island, there's something for everyone. Step inside the historic ten-room lighthouse or comb the beach for seashells. Prefer to relax? Enjoy a picnic under the pavilion or sprawl out on the lawn. Take in the breathtaking scenery using our newly installed antique telescope — it's a real treat!
Whether you're planning a family outing, a day with friends, or a special event, this cruise promises a breezy blend of fun, education, and natural beauty.
Please note: The lighthouse tower is currently closed to visitors. The ground-floor rooms and island grounds remain fully open and accessible.

Schedule &amp; Tickets
Cruises run seasonally from May through September. Check our schedule page for current departure times and availability.
Reservations &amp; Cancellations
When making reservations, provide contact information that will be available on the day of your trip, including email and cell phone number.
All passengers need a ticket regardless of age. We are required to abide by strict U.S. Coast Guard passenger counts.
Cancellation policy: Tickets are non-refundable and cannot be changed or transferred. If the Seaport Association cancels a cruise due to weather, you will receive a full refund. We will notify you by email if a cruise is canceled — please check your email before leaving for your trip.
Departure &amp; Duration
- Round-trip lasts approximately 3 hours (about 1½ hours on the island)
- Boats depart from 90 Water Street in Historic South Norwalk (directly across from Grit Ninja Norwalk Gym)
- Arrive 30 minutes early — boats leave right on time!
- Check your email before heading out for any last-minute weather updates
Parking

What to Bring
- Sunscreen and bug repellent (complimentary bug repellent is also available on the island)
- Water and snacks for your picnic

Cooler &amp; Baggage Policy
All coolers and personal items must fit under your seat per U.S. Coast Guard regulations. Maximum cooler dimensions: 18"(H) × 18"(D) × 24"(W). No exceptions — this is a Coast Guard safety requirement.
Safety &amp; Comfort Tips
A few simple precautions will help you stay safe and comfortable on Sheffield Island:
Insect Protection: Wear insect repellent (complimentary spray is available on-site). Check yourself for ticks after your visit.
Sun Safety: Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and apply sunscreen regularly. Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing and a hat to stay cool and protected.
