Car Charging Station Catches Fire At Norwalk Mall Parking Garage: FD

Fire officials said crews were called to the SoNo Collection mall parking garage after an electric vehicle charging station caught fire.

NORWALK, CT — Firefighters were called to the SoNo Collection mall parking garage after an electric vehicle charging station caught fire Saturday morning, according to fire officials.

In a news release, Deputy Chief Adam Markowitz said the charging station fire was reported around 7:30 a.m. at the mall's parking garage, located at 100 North Water Street.

When crews arrived, they found smoke coming from an upper floor on the back side of the parking garage, where they located the on fire charging station, Markowitz said.

Crews cut the power and put out the fire with multiple dry chemical extinguishers, Markowitz said. No vehicles were in the parking garage at the time of the fire.

The blaze was extinguished in 10 minutes. The Norwalk Fire Marshal Division is investigating the cause of the fire, according to Markowitz.
