NORWALK, CT — A 31-year-old caretaker for an elderly Norwalk woman is accused of stealing over $58,000 from the woman, according to police.

In a news release, Police Lt. Joe Dinho said officers received a forgery complaint in late September that developed into a lengthy and detailed investigation.

According to Dinho, Jennifer Hernandez had been employed as a caretaker for the elderly woman for over 10 years when the woman's daughter discovered money had been illegally withdrawn from her mother's bank account, which was overdrawn.

Police determined Hernandez had made over 100 illegal payments to her own credit card accounts using the woman's account without authorization, totaling over $58,000, Dinho said.

Hernandez was arrested on a warrant after turning herself into police Tuesday. She was charged with first-degree larceny.
