Carmen Iris Urbina, age 66, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away comforted by her family at Cassena Care in Norwalk. Carmen was born in San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico on January 27, 1953, but was a Norwalk resident for most of her life. She was a daughter to Cosme Maldonado and Maria Vazquez, and was one of eighteen children.
Carmen was a devoted mother and grandmother, who had a passion for gardening. Her flower gardens were admired by many and brought enjoyment to her neighborhood. Carmen was an excellent cook, the best of the bunch, and loved to cook for her family. She was strong and sassy, and loved to help people and had an impact on many lives in countless ways. Carmen loved history, and had a passion for poetry. She wrote several of her own poems that will be enjoyed by her family for many years to come. Carmen worked for many years as a bus driver for the Board of Education.
Carmen is survived by her loving sons; Marco Anthony Tijerino, Luis Alberto Serrano, and her daughter, Marylis Portillo, all of Norwalk. She was blessed with six grandsons; Aria Urbina, Nathaniel Urbina, Roxny Portillo, Hunter Serrano, Lorenzo Serrano, Isaiah Urbina and one granddaughter, Nahvi Dennison, all of Norwalk. She is predeceased by her beloved son, Gerardo Augusto Urbina of Norwalk.

Friends and family are invited on Thursday, February 14, 2019 from 6 - 9 p.m. at Hoyt-Cognetta/Lesko Funeral Home, 5 East Wall Street, In Historic Norwalk, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday February 15, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. directly at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 85 S. Main St., Norwalk, CT.
