In a news release, Assistant Chief Timothy Reardon said crews were called to the 2.5-story single family home around 5 a.m. and found smoke coming from both floors and the attic.

One cat was safely removed from the home by firefighters, and the residents all safely self-evacuated the house "due to the presence of working smoke detectors," Reardon said.

Four adults and two children were displaced by the fire and are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross, according to Reardon.

The incident is currently under investigation by the Norwalk Fire Marshal Division, Reardon said.
