Chelsea Cohen Fitness Academy Launches 1st Jamboree at Norwalk High
Over 500 Children and 100 Volunteers Attend.
Over 500 summer campers from Fairfield County met up at Norwalk High School today for an afternoon of fun, games, fitness, training and an education in the importance of having an active lifestyle.
The High School's Testa Football Stadium served as an 18-event venue designed as a special day-trip for campers from ages 8-15 to learn more about the benefits of leading an active, healthy lifestyle.
Children attending the event were from Cardinal Shehan Center & First Tee of Fairfield County (Bridgeport), George Washington Carver Center and Norwalk Parks & Recreation (Norwalk); Stamford YMCA, Stamford Boys & Girls Club & Yerwood Center (Stamford) and Greenwich Boys & Girls Club.

The Academy’s fitness experts and many volunteers were on hand to conduct educational demonstrations and drills at a variety of fitness stations in a field-day type format. Mayor Richard A. Moccia, and featured speaker, former New York Mets manager and ESPN baseball analyst Bobby Valentine were scheduled to attend to encourage the campers.
“When we established the Cohen Academy last summer one of our primary goals was to give access to underserved youth to the best available fitness practices, information and experts in the health and wellness fields,” said Fairfield County Sports Commission executive director Tom Chiappetta.

“This Jamboree will not only start that process in a big way, but also give these youngsters a memorable experience and an opportunity to meet other kids like themselves from nearby communities.”
