Common Council to Set Ceiling on City Budget

On Tuesday, the Common Council is scheduled to set the "cap" on the total amount of city spending for the upcoming fiscal year.

The Common Council is scheduled to vote on the city spending "cap" on Tuesday, Mayor Richard A. Moccia said in his regular weekly interview. (Due to technical difficulties, the interview was not taped this week.)

"We'll look to see if we have any additional revision," Moccia said. City officials now have more information on what money the city may be getting from the state. A tax increase of about 1 percent, or roughly $70 a year for the average taxpayer was the estimated increase when Moccia first proposed the budget, he said.

Moccia said he expects the Board of Education on Thursday to vote on a proposal to reconfigure classrooms at the Rowayton and Naramake elementary schools in order to relieve overcrowding in both buildings.

  • appearing on-air in a call-in talk show on WNLK-AM radio from 8:45 to 9 a.m. Wednesday;
  • a 9:30 a.m. news conference at Stepping Stones Museum for Children about the museum's LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification for its recently added wing;
  • the Annual Gala Wine Tasting and Silent Auction for the Police Athletic League on Thursday.
