NORWALK, CT — Road work scheduled to take place Sunday through Thursday is expected to impact traffic in Norwalk, according to the state Department of Transportation.

In a news release, city officials said the Interstate 95 southbound ramp will be closed at exit 16 Sunday-Monday, which will include a traffic detour between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.

The detour will redirect anyone traveling from East Avenue heading southbound on I-95 to the Exit 16 on-ramp to I-95 northbound. The detour will then continue to Exit 17, where traffic will be detoured back on the I-95 southbound on ramp at Exit 17, city officials said.

The detour is meant to reduce traffic on city streets by keeping traffic on state roads and will conclude Monday, officials said.

The second project will take place Tuesday through Thursday and involve alternating one way traffic on East Avenue between Olmstead Place and Hendricks Avenue.

According to city officials, this road requires the reduction of travel lanes on East Avenue to alternating one way traffic between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.

These road projects aim to improve the center median on I-95 to enhance the state's storm drainage system and provide the section of I-95 between exits 16 and 17 with a new highway signs, officials said.

  • The traffic will be detoured to Exit 16 on ramp to I-95 north bound and then to Exit 17 and will be detoured back on I-95 south bound on ramp at Exit 17.
