'Continuous Weekday Lane Closures' Announced On Norwalk Road In March: Police

Drivers should expect delays and detours as critical drainage improvements are made in the area, according to police.

NORWALK, CT — Continuous weekday lane closures will take place for approximately four weeks on West Avenue in Norwalk beginning March 1, according to the Norwalk Police Department.

In a Facebook post Friday, police said "24-hour continuous weekday lane closures" will take place for an estimated four weeks on West Avenue just north of the Interstate 95 northbound on-ramp starting Sunday.

According to police, two-way traffic on West Avenue and access to and from I-95 and Route 7 ramps will be maintained at all times, though drivers should expect delays and detours, as well as consider alternate routes to avoid the area.

All lanes on West Avenue will be re-opened during weekends, police said.

According to police, the purpose of the lane closures is to enable the Connecticut Department of Transportation to make critical drainage improvements.

"The existing drainage culvert is in critical condition, with perforations along the culvert invert as well as severe corrosion of the steel culvert," the department's post reads. "In several locations, the steel protective coating exhibits loss, deteriorations or is failing and missing all together."

The project will also increase hydraulic capacity "as there has been historical flooding at the intersection of West Avenue with the Route 7 off-ramp and I-95 northbound on-ramp," according to the department.

A DOT image included in the department's post notes the lane closure hours are Sunday beginning at 8 p.m. to Friday at 6 a.m.
