Coronavirus-Related Deaths Reach 124 In Norwalk; Cases At 1,986

In Fairfield County, 1,231 people have died of complications from the virus as of Monday, according to state health officials.

NORWALK, CT — Another four coronavirus-related deaths were reported in Norwalk as of Monday, and one new death over the weekend, bringing the city's total to 124, according to Mayor Harry Rilling. The number of confirmed cases of the virus (COVID-19) in the city rose by two to 1,986.

Statewide, the coronavirus-related death toll stands at 3,769, an increase of 27 as of Monday, according to state health officials. There are 41,303 Connecticut residents who have tested positive for the virus, an increase of 430.

The number of patients hospitalized with COVID-19 in the state decreased by 12, however, to 694. In Fairfield County, 1,231 people have died of complications from the virus as of Monday, and there have been 15,355 confirmed cases. "It is with great sadness that I share we have lost four more residents to COVID-19," Rilling said. "These are not just numbers or a statistic, these are our friends, family, and neighbors. I offer my thoughts and prayers to their loved ones. I hope they will find peace and comfort during these difficult times."

  • The Yard Waste Site and Transfer Station have new hours. The Yard Waste Site will be open Tuesday-Thursday 8 a.m. – 3 p.m., and the Transfer Station will be open Monday-Friday 7:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. and Saturday 7:30 a.m. – 2 p.m.
  • With more organizations and businesses conducting virtual meetings on the Zoom platform, cybercriminals are now sending fake emails with links to “download” the latest version of Zoom. Clicking the link takes a user to a spam website where the download infects a computer with a virus.
  • Before heading to the park or beach, residents are reminded to verify their license plate information at norwalkct.org/passes. Nonresidents will be ticketed and towed when parked illegally, and it is important that residents double-check their information is up-to-date.
  • As more businesses start to reopen, including retail stores and restaurants, local enforcement will be handled by the Norwalk Health Department and Norwalk Police Department. Those with a complaint should call the Police non-emergency line at 203-854-3000. The public should not report issues on social media, as those are not being monitored in real-time.

"Our community has lost so much due to coronavirus. We have been through a lot," Rilling said. "I was encouraged over the Memorial Day weekend to see people continuing to socially distance, wear face coverings, and take this situation seriously. We cannot get too comfortable or lax in our efforts to stop coronavirus. I thank the public for their continued efforts."
