CT ENT EXPANDS PRACTICE TO PROVIDE PERSONALIZED TREATMENT FOR SINUS & ENVIRONMENTAL ALLERGY SUFFERERS
Allergy specialists use advanced techniques to help patients find sustainable relief from symptoms
Norwalk, CT (September 16) – The Connecticut Center for Advanced ENT Care (CT ENT) is proud to announce expanded offerings for allergy testing and treatment for patients suffering from allergens caused by dander, pollen, dust, and mold. CT ENT allergy specialists provide a comprehensive approach to allergy care for patients of all age populations from young children to senior citizens.
“Approximately 50 million* people in the U.S. suffer from allergies each year, a chronic condition that may affect school and work performance and attendance,” says MD and Director of CT ENT Robert Weiss. “We are excited to expand this important area of the practice in order to manage often debilitating symptoms and improve the patient’s overall quality of life.”
Dr. Weiss also offers surgical procedures as an adjunct therapy to allergy treatment since sinus, ear and adenoid surgeries are often indicated in this allergy population. In fact, up to 80 percent** of patients with chronic sinusitis, also experience allergies. Patients who pair these treatments often see more positive outcomes.

“At CT ENT, we have the ability to examine the patient’s nose and throat using hi-definition endoscopes, which is unique from typical allergy care and often why allergists and primary care providers send people to see us,” says Michelle Leonard, Director of Otolaryngic Allergy at CT ENT.
The first step for allergy patients is to determine what is causing the reaction. CT ENT allergy specialists utilize Modified Quantitative Testing (MQT), a comprehensive technique of advanced skin testing. The American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy (AAOA) recommended test has a high level of sensitivity to diagnose allergies.

Once the allergies have been diagnosed, CT ENT practitioners work with patients to develop and implement a treatment plan, which may include the use of medication or immunotherapy. Immunotherapy (IT) decreases the body’s reaction to the allergen(s) and is the only treatment method known to cure allergies. Traditional IT usually involves weekly shots or injections of allergy extract performed in the medical office. CT ENT is among a growing number of allergy practices that offer an alternative approach: sublingual IT or SLIT, which delivers the extract in the form of drops under the tongue. Patients can do this at home and avoid the inconvenience of weekly shots in the office.
Immunotherapy has been proven to reduce nasal congestion, runny nose and itchy eyes. It can also decrease the onset and increase the control of asthma in childhood, increase asthma control in adults and decrease the number of sinus infections. Data also shows improvement in patients with Meniere’s Disease and Eustachian Tube Dysfunction.
