In November 2015 the Tax Collector’s office began working on this sale and selected more than 131 properties for inclusion in the sale in an effort to collect approximately $3.2 million. At that time the office sent preliminary letters to the property owners whose properties were scheduled for sale, advising them of the pending enforcement. In March 2016, after the current collection period had concluded and collection results were analyzed, another 38 properties were added, increasing the amount anticipated to be collected from the sale to $4 million and bringing the total number of properties to 169. Formal demand and lien notices were sent to all of the property owners in March 2016, and a second set of demand letters that specifically described the tax sale process was sent in April 2016.
Since November, nearly half of the properties scheduled for tax sale have already paid in full. Those payments, together with numerous partial payments on accounts remaining in the sale, already total more than $2.2 million in tax collections.

The amount collected, as of June 8, has swelled to $2.85 million, according to officials, and only the 59 properties mentioned above remain on the auction block.
To be included in the auction, a property owner needed to be delinquent on at least $17,000 in taxes, or be in arrears for at least three years, regardless of the amount.
Some property owners have made partial payments on their delinquent taxes, but officials will not remove a property from the list until all taxes (and associated fees) are paid in full.
