Elderly Norwalk Resident Victim of Distraction Burglary

A man claiming to be from the water company entered the resident's home.

Norwalk police are investigating after an elderly resident reported being the victim of a distraction burglary on Saturday.

According to police, the elderly resident who lives on Stuart Avenue told police a suspect approached him outside him home claiming to be from the water company and told the man he needed to go to the basement to check on a water leak complaint.

The suspect then allegedly contacted his accomplice on the phone and told the victim he needed to go further inside the house to check. After entering the home, the suspect began running water and flushing the toilet to cover up the noise made by his accomplice who police say entered the basement and stole items from a locked chest.
