The NCC Chapter of the Student World Assembly will present its fifth annual Human Rights Day at from 11:30 a.m to 12:50 p.m. on Tuesday, December 6 in the GenRe Forum on the East Campus.
Violence against women and strategies for intervention are the focus of the event. Two speakers will address the issues surrounding these topics:
Sunita Caminha, a research specialist from the U.N.'s Women Ending Violence Against Women Center, and Yolanda Swift, a mentor for Sanctuary for Families and a survivor of domestic violence.

Caminha has been a research specialist with the UN's Women Ending Violence Center since 2008. From 2002-2008, she worked on conflict-sensitive development efforts with civil society organizations in Timor-Leste. Ms. Caminha received her Master of International Affairs degree from the Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs where she studied forced migration and conflict resolution. Swift is a mentor for Sanctuary for Families and a survivor of domestic violence. Sanctuary for Families is a nonprofit organization that provides a range of comprehensive services for domestic violence victims, sex trafficking victims, and their children. Annually, Sanctuary reaches more than 10,000 domestic violence survivors through direct services alone. Ms. Swift is a Norwalk Community College student.
