Theatre Artists Workshop Presents a Classic Night Reading of "The Dining Room" by A.R. Gurney

THE DINING ROOM is a comedy of manners, set in a single dining room where 18 scenes from different households overlap and intertwine. Each story focuses on a different family during different time periods but has in their possession the same dining room furniture set built before the turn of the 1900s.
The Theatre Artists Workshop continues its celebrated series of Classic Night Readings by bringing Gurney’s “dining room” to audiences here in Fairfield County. Co-directed by Katie Sparer (Stratford) and Mark Basile (Weston), the performance stars Barbara Rhodes (Weston), Jo Anne Parady (Norwalk), Melody James (Westport), Richard Leonard (Cos Cob), Chilton Ryan (Weston), and Ms. Sparer and Mr. Basile. Kim Malara (Danbury) is the stage director.
One of the great challenges this talented cast will undertake in the performance is how they will change periods, ages, roles and personalities with virtuoso skill and in rapid fire succession portraying a wide range of characters. An exciting exercise for actors to stretch their artistic muscles, the flow of the beautifully written script is equally exciting for the audience as well.
