False Gun Theft Report Leads to Prison Sentence
The man sold his guns in exchange for drugs. One gun was used in a Norwalk shooting.

NORWALK, CT — A Long Island man who was accused of selling his guns in exchange for drugs was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison.
Scott Liff, 47, of East Williston, NY was sentenced Tuesday by Senior U.S. Judge Alfred Covello.
New Haven Police arrested an individual for criminal possession of a firearm on Nov. 18, 2012. He said he purchased the gun off the streets in Bridgeport. The gun was registered to Liff, according to the U.S. Attorney District of Connecticut office.

On Dec. 24, 2013 Norwalk Police arrested an individual for a shooting committed with a gun that was registered to Liff as well. Liff falsely told officers that the firearms had been stolen and that he hadn't reported the theft, according to the U.S. Attorney's office.
Liff had an addiction to crack cocaine and told police he had sold as many as 10 guns, including an assault rifle to drug dealers in Bridgeport in exchange for crack.

Liff pleaded guilty to one count of possession of a firearm by an unlawful user of a controlled substance in July 2015.
