NORWALK, CT — A firefighter and a 70-year-old resident were both injured in a Rowayton house fire that gutted the home's interior Wednesday evening, according to fire officials.
In a news release, Deputy Chief Adam Markowitz said Rowayton volunteer firefighters were called to a structure fire at a one-story wood framed home on Crest Road around 5 p.m.
Initial reports said the house was on fire and one resident was outside suffering from burns, Markowitz said.

When crews arrived, they found flames coming from the back of the home and the sole resident across the street suffering from smoke inhalation. A Rowayton firefighter also injured their wrist, Markowitz said.
Crews extinguished the blaze, which gutted the home's interior, in about 30 minutes. Firefighters remained at the home for over an hour chasing hot spots and performing overhaul, Markowitz said.
