Firefighter Exam Information, Timeline Released For Norwalk
The city encourages candidates of all cultures and backgrounds to apply to join the ranks of the Norwalk Fire Department.
NORWALK, CT — Norwalk's next firefighter exam will be administered Jan. 13, 2024, according to city officials.
In a news release provided by the city, Mayor Harry Rilling and Fire Chief Gino Gatto encouraged candidates of all cultures and backgrounds to apply to join the ranks of the Norwalk Fire Department.
"I encourage people of all backgrounds to apply to join the ranks of the Norwalk Fire Department," Rilling said in a news release. "Norwalk's Bravest take on everything from fires to medical emergencies to help protect our community and we want our workforce to reflect the diverse community we serve when it comes to race, gender and sexual orientation. In Norwalk, we also strive to have a local workforce where people can work in the community they live, which is why I also encourage more residents who are passionate about helping people to consider a career in the Norwalk Fire Department."

Registration for the exam opened Saturday (Nov. 18) and will close Dec. 31. Interested applicants should visit www.firefighterapp.com to register for the test.
The cost to register for the exam is $35. Applicants must be at least 18 at the time of the exam, according to city officials.

"As we continue to invest in our fire department, we are committed to filling its ranks with qualified individuals who represent our city's diverse communities," Gatto said in a news release. "The Norwalk Fire Department offers challenging and fulfilling career opportunities, and we encourage all eligible Norwalk residents to apply to take the test and join the Norwalk Fire Department family."
In mid-December, the fire department will host a virtual town hall meeting to help interested applicants learn more about the department, the testing process and what it's like to be a firefighter in the city.
Additional information will be sent via the firefighter app and posted on the city's website in the coming weeks, according to city officials.
City officials also noted the announcement demonstrates Rilling and Gatto's continued commitment to creating a pipeline of firefighters and future leaders within the department who reflect Norwalk's diverse communities.
